As the Filmhouse was established over 30 years ago, the managers knew there was likely to be a number of resource efficiency improvement measures that could be made to the building to reduce energy costs, and improve their customers’ experience when visiting the venue.

Robert Howie, the Filmhouse’s Customer Experience Manager, contacted Resource Efficient Scotland to get the help that would allow the managers to clearly understand their options.

 Six main recommendations were made:

• Boiler replacement which would deliver an estimated £4,550 worth of annual savings and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 24 tonnes

• Upgrading heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system controls, which would result in reduced gas and electricity consumption, reduced CO2 emissions and annual savings of £2,900

• Kitchen hot water upgrade to a new gas-fired condensing hot water heater

• Replacement of electric storage heaters with new radiators with thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)

• Fitting appropriate insulation to pipework, valves and flanges

• Upgrading to more efficient LED lighting
